Chris Nemec grew up in Hendersonville, NC, where he learned to love and respect the area and the environment. After graduating from West Henderson High School, Chris went on to get a degree in environmental biology from the University of North Carolina Asheville, with additional coursework in solar design at NC State.
Chris went to work for a respected tree company, maintaining some of the East Coast’s most prestigious golf courses including Augusta National. He got hands-on experience in sophisticated tree care techniques, including lightning protection and structural support.
Collaborating with a landscape contractor, Chris designed and built landscaping installations, retaining walls and drainage systems. Working with a master carpenter, Chris rehabbed and restored classic older houses in Asheville, where he learned to reverse engineer their original construction and to design from the ground up, key components of what a remodel carpenter’s toolkit.
Establishing his own landscaping and carpentry business, Chris did substantial work in landscape design, specializing in native plants. Chris’s business also included stonework and timber retaining wall and drainage. He studied blueprint reading, building, estimating and CAD at ABTech and increasingly focused on carpentry and construction, his true vocation.
Chris earned his contractor’s license and has built Nemec Construction through high quality work, solid relationships with clients, referrals and word of mouth. With these assets, Nemec Construction has weathered the downturns in the economy and has grown steadily in its scope of work.
Chris married Amy, his high school sweetheart, in 1999. Their son Aiden was born in 2006 and daughter Maggie in 2010. They live in a Structural Insulated panel, passive solar house that chris designed and built. Chris also gives to local causes, most recently, the Asheville March for science and ICI charter school.
Tamara graduated from the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga campus with a BS in Interior Design. Tamara has 17 years of experience in the building industry. She specializes in color theory, space planning, and kitchen and bath design.
Tamara came to Black Mountain in 2007 to join a major building materials company, where she took over their kitchen and bath department and developed a following among builders and architects, building her client base through referrals. She began working with Chris Nemec in that capacity, including his and Amy’s own kitchen.
Tamara and Chris developed a strong professional working relationship over a span of seven years working closely with Chris’s clients. When Chris decided to expand his company he asked Tamara to join the Nemec Construction team. Appreciating Chris’s commitment to quality building practices, creativity and integrity, Tamara knew Nemec Construction would be the best place for her to further her practical knowledge in the building industry, so she accepted his invitation.
Tamara’s goal in her work with Nemec Construction is to enable clients to make educated decisions about their own projects within the budgets they have set. She believes that every project is personal to the client, and her role is as a guide who helps clients bring their own ideas to fruition. By educating each client, she helps them to make informed decisions that best fit their needs. She feels it is important to listen carefully to clients ideas.
Tamara tries to make the building process enjoyable and to minimize stress as much as possible. She enjoys design challenges and expresses excitement about the design process.
In addition to her work, Tamara enjoys lapidary, growing herbs, hiking and photography. Her greatest accomplishment is her son Ryan who is an amazing tattoo artist and talented in music (Tamara plays the radio and air drums).
A few candid shots, yes they are a little camera shy, some of them anyway.
